Rural Community Energy Fund

RCEF (Rural Community Energy Fund) is a £15 million programme, delivered by WRAP and jointly funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). It supports rural communities in England to develop renewable energy projects which provide economic and social benefits to the community.

DARE can help your community investigate accessing RCEF funding, assist you with community and stakeholder engagement, provide pre-feasibility work, help with bid writing and provide networking opportunities for joint working with other established Community Benefit Societies to avoid duplication. DARE can provide the full technical feasibility assessments, business planning and financial forecasting outputs of an RCEF project.

For more information on the fund please visit:

  • An initial grant of up to £20,000 will pay for investigations into the renewable energy project's feasibility.

  • A further £130,000 will then be available in the form of an unsecured loan, to allow projects to develop a robust business case to attract further investment.

DARE and our team have supported ten communities in Devon alone to access RCEF funding and have been chosen as the delivery consultants for all of these successful projects. If you would like to explore RCEF funding for your community please contact us.

The fund will provide support for communities in two stages:
