Neighbourhood Planning

In Devon alone there are over eighty communities participating in the Neighbourhood Plan process, which are all at a variety of stages. All of these communities will have to address sustainability within their Neighbourhood Plans and how they can best protect and improve the sustainability of their community. Neighbourhood Planning is a process that can empower a community to take action and make it a better place.

It brings people together to develop a shared understanding of the features and characteristics of their community and to agree upon a range of actions that can be delivered to the benefit of everyone in the locality.

Neighbourhood Planning

Issues which can be addressed through a Neighbourhood Plan include energy security, renewable energy, fuel poverty, low carbon housing, green infrastructure and climate change. Areas also looked at are community ownership opportunities and procedures such as Community Land Trusts, Community Right to Build Orders and Neighbourhood Development Orders which can address pertinent issues for rural communities such as affordable housing, community cohesion and the provision of local housing.

DARE and our associate consultants are currently working with Neighbourhood Plan groups in Devon to help them address sustainability and energy issues within the plan process. If you are currently undertaking a Neighbourhood Plan and want to address energy security, renewable energy, fuel poverty, low carbon housing, green infrastructure and climate change please contact us.
