Learning Resources

We have recently secured funding from The Ernest Cook Trust in order to provide some learning resource materials to schools in Devon which have been developed through the SEACS (Sustainable Energy Across the Common Space)programme which was a Devon County Council partnership project. There are a number of resources available to help schools work effectively on energy conservation by raising awareness and taking appropriate targeted action. These resources offer your pupils an excellent opportunity to develop their insight into renewable energy and energy efficiency awareness. The materials are designed to be used in line with the national curriculum.

These resources will be issued to schools on a loan basis. We will visit your school to deliver the materials and give your staff a brief presentation on their use. At the end of the period we will return to collect the materials from you. As full funding for this project has been sought, there are no costs involved to yourselves.

Learning Resources

1. Introducing the energy house project

2. Planning the energy house

3. Designing the features

4. Building the features

5. Presenting the house

1. Introducing energy & climate change

1. Investigating running costs

2. Investigating heat loss & insulation

3. Investigating renewable energy

Model House & Insulation Experiment Kits

Each model house box contained two houses, one to act as a control and the other to be retrofitted with insulation and technologies.

The insulation experiment kits contain seven vessels insulated with differing materials to test the effects of heat loss.

There are digital thermometers to be used in various experiments and plug in electricity monitors to ascertain the energy use of different appliances.

Samples of insulation materials used commonly throughout the construction industry are included. Also included are solar panels which can be used for solar radiation experiments and can also be fitted to the model house.

If you would like to take part in this fantastic opportunity, please contact us and we can arrange an appointment to visit your school.

If you have any queries or would like further information regarding this project, please do not hesitate to contact us.
